Broken Windows

The history of Cottage Cove
4

Where do I even start? It feels like I’ve been working on this episode forever. Heads up, if you want the story that goes with these, give the episode a listen. I’ll just be doing photos and clippings here in the notes.

These two photos should help orient you a little, so you know what location I am talking about. Here’s a google pin, if you’re inclined to click.

Dan, if you’re out there… do you still love Peggy?

I guess we’ll start at the beginning. Here’s what the cottages look like today. These photos were pulled off the Kitsap County Parcel Search.

It’s kind of fascinating to see them documented like that. and now for a look at the beginning!

What a great old sign! This photo was clipped from page 1 of the Nov 19, 1998 issue of the Sun, the article was written by Christopher Dunagan.

Next up, this is the car of Willie Majors, as the navy crane lifts it out of Sinclair Inlet:

From the Sun, Feb 2, 1988, Page 1. Article written by Ron Judd.

There were so many dramatic moments in this story that it’s hard to choose just a couple of photos. I have more than 50 articles tagged in the newspaper archive. I’m not sure if I should spend a couple of hours listing out every single one of them. For now I’m going to fill another little gallery of relevant photos for your enjoyment. Feel free to reach out if you want to talk about the sources and I can tell you where to look them up.

Some more cottage cove photos

As promised, Here’s a link to one of the court case documents pertaining to the assaults that happened at Cottage Cove after it’s abandonment, for my true crime lovers. The coverage of the case in the Sun is kind of inconsistent. I couldn’t tell from the paper who had actually been charged with what etc etc. Have fun with this rabbit hole, but I warn you, it’s pretty brutal stuff. As I said, these people are all likely still alive.

and last but not least, here’s the development plans that have been approved for the site.

What a ride. This episode was quite the journey and I’m glad it’s finished. I think this is everything I promised to post, if I forgot something let me know.
